Class will take place in the basement of the church, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Fr. McBride will be continuing the adult catechism lessons tonight at 7 pm. He and I will be taking turns teaching the class, for a month at a time. We will now be covering the Catechism of the Council of Trent, also known as the Roman Catechism. This is the catechism that was a fruit of the Council of Trent and was produced under the direction of St. Charles Borromeo. Rather than having a question and answer format, as more modern catechisms do, it is simply an explanation of the faith in continuous prose.
You may know that, at the Council of Trent, the Summa Theologica of St. Thomas Aquinas was placed on the altar, with Sacred Scripture, such was the respect that they had for the Summa. That is why the Roman Catechism uses the Summa as a guide and frequently references it in the footnotes.
The Catechism is split up into four sections:
- The Creed
- The Sacraments
- The Commandments
- The Our Father
Going through this catechism together will be a great means to help us understand our faith more deeply and strengthen it.
Greg Smith has been making audio recordings of the lessons, which you can find here on the St. Isidore website.
