Upper School Students Visit the New CORE Electric Cooperative

How many schools in America get to the CORE of education? Well, Our Lady Help of Christians does! On September 28th, the 7th-12th grade Academy students were given a chance to take a field trip to CORE Electric Cooperative to see them and their staff at work. The day started off with Mass and breakfast, and the rest was history! Twelve-passenger vans were brought by many parents to help transfer students from the Church to the CORE Electric building.

After arriving at CORE, the Academy split into two groups, the girls and the boys. The ladies attended a presentation by the head of energy efficiency at CORE while the gentlemen went to watch two different demonstrations by the linemen. Soon after, the two groups switched presentations. These presentations included information on career opportunities, as well as an insight into how electricity works, how to be more efficient with energy usage, and more! Those who were there were also able to witness a feat of great bravery, when Fr. McManus daringly rode a 40-foot crane to the top! 

After all the excitement, the students, staff, and chaperones hopped back into the vans and went to Trupp Park for lunch. Soon after a quick lunch, the students went into their respective groups to play football, volleyball, and corn hole until it eventually was time to return to school. Back at the school, Mrs. Pfeiffer capped off the day by bringing everyone ice cream before dismissal.
