Priests carrying Bishop Huonder’s coffin

According to his wishes, expressed several times, Bishop Vitus Huonder was entombed at the Ecône seminary, “near the bishop who suffered so much for the Church,” he said. The pontifical funeral mass was celebrated in the seminary church by Bishop Bernard Fellay. Then the remains of the emeritus bishop of Chur were placed in the seminary vault.

A long procession accompanied Bishop Huonder’s coffin from the crypt to the church where the pontifical Mass was celebrated, where an all night vigil was kept after the Office of the Dead was sung. The procession then when with him to the vault where the last honors were paid to Bishop Huonder and where he finds his final resting place.

In fact, 150 priests and seminarians were present as well as around 30 sisters, and around 900 faithful including the 150 students from the Wangs school where Bishop Huonder ended his days in a holy and happy manner.
